Medical Pedagogical Institute
Thanks to the generous donations from the Nicaraguan public through the Teleton Foundation, we have been able to build the first institute devoted to the integral and specialized care of people with disability. The institute is the largest training centre in Nicaragua, offering support and care in the following areas:
Technical, clinical and rehabilitation care
▪ Specialized assistance department: A functional diagnostic clinic has been set up and a rehabilitation plan designed which incorporates the following areas of therapy; pedagogy, psychology, physiotherapy, early stimulation, hearing, language, neurology and general medicine; the services are delivered by specialists in each of the respective fields.
▪ Training
Training department: The institute develops training modules aimed at the different sectors of the community, including; the parents and relatives of people with disabilities, community leaders, education and health professionals, social workers, and other community groups involved in strengthening the abilities of people with deficiencies and/or disabilities.
▪ Research and development of disability
Research and information department: The Institute researches, collates and documents all information gathered from the experiences and knowledge generated in the field to produce up to date and progressive didactic material.
